The
technology which provides fieldbus data networking systems is constantly
being developed which logically becomes obsolete as technology advances.
This situation leaves a user with a diminishing stock of spare parts.
For Sarclad Limited, Chesterfield, UK a manufacturer of monitoring equipment
for the steel industry ,this project was an intellectual property recovery
study where existing fieldbus ‘Modbus’ modules were examined
to determine their operation and then to re-engineer the units to provide
the user with the ability to replicate modules when required.

Also
for Sarclad limited, this project concerned the intellectual property
recovery to ascertain the operation and attributes of eddy current probes
used to detect cracks or abnormalities in steel mill rolls. Furthermore,
the project also established new technologies to monitor and capture data
representative of an abnormality when detected.
